In 2014 never had a yes vote
But something stirred and occurred in its death though
We had no free press to invest in
None of the mainstream rags was leaning left and
That left out like so many questions
Like why we hold your nuclear weapons
Or fund these wars Middle East meets Western
With soldiers shooting up like Red Dead Redemption
We ain’t really in the system
If nobody’s listening and culture non-existent
We don’t have news channel
Chat show or outlet
Platform for arts or community concepts
Want to see kids believing in achievements
But schools teach and we spoon-feed reasons
To fall in line
Feel weak without meaning
I think our passions need a little reclaiming

It’s okay to be aware where the tax you pay goes
And I’m not saying it’s all rosy and fair though
I just kind of care to be an equal or let go
I hope this hell hole with at least have heat
So we can cook up and eat our toast and beans
Have a toast to the Queen and embrace Brexit
And love toast and beans every day for breakfast
Maybe have a little wee egg with
My British packed Union Jack haggis and then sit
Knock back a UK Whisky
Shortbread biscuits
And if I think it’s wrong must be nationalistic
Aye right be creative so I write
I’m the type to keep a little eye on these islands
And open my eyelids refuse to be quiet
Either lose our culture or all stand by it
